The #DRIP
I’m not usually, what one would call, a “loud” person. In fact, I’m very much so an introverted person. And the OBJ 720’s, which are affectionately coined, “Young King of the Drip,” are anything but reserved, quiet, and conservative.
I think I checked the SNKRS app everyday, for 3 weeks straight, even though I knew that I had anywhere from 21-31 days until the shoe actually dropped. THAT’S how BADLY I wanted this shoe! I can’t tell you what drew me to the shoe, in terms of the shoe itself. I can’t even lie…it was definitely the name! I identified with it so much, because, I believe that “the drip,” while typically overused and relatively cliché, is something that I’ve come to hold near and dear to my heart. Because it’s not necessarily a garment of clothing, or an accessory. It’s INNATE. And it’s attractive. Just like Christ SHOULD BE, as a follower of Christ.
I spent a great deal of my life running from what I KNEW to do, based off of what I may LOOK like. I can still remember sitting on the pew at church right now. I would wonder if THIS is what being a Christian would be like once I became “of age” to actually be one…as though there was a time constraint on salvation. I thought to myself, “I’ll get SAVED around my 30’s. That should be a reasonable age. I’ll be old, hopefully married, with children, so my life should be pretty boring by then.”
Now, here I am. I’m knocking on 33, definitely married, but no children yet, and I regret how long it took me to truly accept salvation. I know that I should have done it A LOT SOONER. And I can’t help but to give my attention to this gut feeling that I have, telling me that my life is JUST getting started! A friend of mine who was literally told to uproot his whole life, everything he knew, and move out here to Texas told me something very interesting. It’s something that I’ll never forget. I asked him one day, “What brought you here to Texas?” To which he smiled at me and said, “The Lord. He literally just told me to leave, and He’ll take are of everything else. And because of this, I’m convinced that Christians should live the most adventurous lives!” One thing that I can attest to…is that from the first day that I said “yes” to the Lord, my life has been nothing short of an adventure!
Below is a full breakdown of the outfit that I pieced together:
-Shirt: Swelly (Tan and Hot Pink wording)
-Jeans: Target (Ripped/Gray)
-Socks: Urban Outfitters (Tyedye)
I wouldn’t JUST limit this shoe to the summer. If you intend to turn heads both in and out of season, then these kicks are most definitely going to accomplish the mission!
Follow me as I FOLLOW Christ in DOPE kicks!
Good God, Good Shoes.
