Let The Levees Break
Fun fact: I’m afraid of thunderstorms. Rain is cool and all. But when you add a bright strike in a night’s sky, coupled with a loud roar that’s capable of shaking a foundation…I internally, lose it.
I couldn’t imagine what it must have been like for all of those who had to endure Hurricane Katrina😔 It’s one thing to go through something, knowing that there’s a way out. But the very thought of having to endure something, while simultaneously feeling stuck at the same time is completely different.
When I was younger there were a handful of songs that everyone loved to sing and praise dance to. And for the sake of this particular topic, there is one song that comes to mind: “I Told The Storm.” It goes as such…
“Even though your winds blow
I want you to know
You cause me no alarm
'Cause I'm safe in His arms
Even though your rain falls
I can still make this call
Let there be peace
Now I can say go away
I command you to move today
Because of faith
I have a brand new day
The sun will shine
And I will be okay
That's what I told the storm...“
As a teenager, I had no clue what these words truly meant. I wasn’t aware of the weight and the magnitude of such authority. Until I lived a little longer, went through the fire, and experienced some strong “storms” of my own. It’s crazy how I managed to come out, on the other side, unscathed. However, those who lived through the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, don’t have that same testimony. Some lost their homes, their transportation, personal belongings, and even family and friends. As a result of this, the “Hall of Fame” Jordan 3’s were coined as the Katrina 3’s, in a charity event to raise funds for those who were affected by the inclement weather.
Below is a complete break down of my “threads”:
Cardigan: From Forever XXI (Red with White Stripes)
Shirt: From Rue 21 (Black, Acid Wash)
Jeans: From Target by Mossimo (Wax Black)
Socks:
#KICKS: Katrina Jordan 3’s (White, with Elephant Print on the heel and toe, with accents of Red)
While they are white, I typically wear these shoes in the rain, as a nod to those who made it through Katrina. Every stitch, every red accent, every elephant print, and layer of stark-white leather, speaks to the victory that was obtained when the “Son” came out after the rain had passed! Whether you decide to tread on water puddles during rainy days, or while the “Son” is out, you are sure to do it in style while walking in VICTORY!
Good God, Good Shoes.
